Summer Interns

We are currently accepting summer internship candidates for Summer 2017. If you are interested in gaining food policy experience and working with our team of experts, please send along a resume, short cover letter, and 2 letters of recommendation to fooddirectionsdc@gmail.com by March 1. Our internship is in person – in Washington, DC – and runs the course of the summer semester. If you are chosen for an interview, you will be alerted by email.

We will make decisions on a rolling basis so we recommend submitting your information early.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Undergraduate / graduate student, or recent graduate, in the fields of nutrition, food science, agriculture, political science, or a related field of study
  • Experience in nutrition science, agriculture, food safety, research, or policy preferred
  • Experience with social media and writing blogs/summaries preferred

 

Primary Responsibilities of Intern:

  • Work with Food Directions team to incorporate knowledge of nutrition science, environment, trends, and federal polices and guidance into client counsel
  • Monitor and summarize relevant news, studies, meetings, and webinars for client newsletters and other client communications
  • Help monitor federal, state, and international regulations + legislation: agriculture, nutrition, food safety
  • Work with team on research projects to support client needs
  • Represent Food Directions at industry coalition meetings and legislative hearings
  • Other projects + duties as assigned

 

Fellowship

We are currently accepting fellowship candidates for Fall 2017 and beyond. This opportunity is runs the full length of a school year (Fall 2017-Summer 2018) with the option of extending.   • Participate in daily team meetings
  • Work with Food Directions team to incorporate knowledge of nutrition or food science, environment, trends, and federal polices and guidance into client counsel
  • Monitor and summarize relevant federal register notices, news, studies, meetings, and webinars for client newsletters and other client communications
  • Monitor federal legislation + alert FD team/clients of new items: agriculture, nutrition, food safety related
  • Monitor state legislation + alert FD team/clients of new items: agriculture, nutrition, food safety related
  • Work with team on research projects to support the business
  • Responsible for presentation development
  • Post weekly ‘Things You Need to Know’ blog post + promotional tweets / Facebook posts
  • Represent Food Directions at industry coalition meetings and legislative hearings
  • Maintain FD “crystal ball”
  • Maintain company calendars, conference/meeting registrations, + travel plans
  • Coordinate FD planning meetings
  • Assist with website and social media maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned
