In an effort to share the happenings and highlights in food policy, Food Directions shares the weekly “Things You Need to Know” list.
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue will speak at the School Nutrition Association’s convention in Atlanta on July 12, 2017.
This week two key happenings, 1) a City of Boulder, CO tax of 2 cents per fluid ounce on beverages with added sugar like soda, sports drinks, energy drinks, and sweetened tea went into effect July 1, 2017 while 2) a Cook County, IL judge temporarily halted the sugary drink tax of a penny-per-ounce that was supposed to take effect in Cook County, IL on the same day.
