In an effort to share the happenings and highlights in food policy, Food Directions shares the weekly “Things You Need to Know” list.
The Seattle City Council passed Council Bill 118965 that will tax distributors of sugar-sweetened beverages at 1.75 cent per ounce but exempt diet drinks. The bill will be effective in January 2018.
The Subcommittee on Nutrition held a public hearing to discuss technology an modernization in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

The Subcommittee on Health of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce canceled a public hearing to examine ‘The Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act of 2017’ and discuss menu labeling requirements.
