The Food and Drug Administration released an Interim Final Rule to extend the menu labeling compliance date to May 7th, 2018.
School Meal Standards
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced adjustments to school meal standards focusing specifically on whole grains, sodium, and milk.
A vote on Scott Gottlieb as FDA commissioner is expected sometime today.
Soda and Snack Taxes
The proposed soda tax in Santa Fe, New Mexico failed last week. Seattle, Washington plans to move forward with their proposed tax on sugar-sweetened beverages. Additionally, the state of California is moving forward with an amendment to require a sales tax on certain foods.
