FDA on Healthy
On March 9, 2017 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hosted a public meeting to discuss a new definition of the term “healthy”. The FDA facilitated the discussion, but did not provide any direct feedback on how they plan to approach the definition of “healthy”. The meeting included presentations from consumer advocacy groups, food industry and government agencies, followed by break out sessions. The meeting focused on developing a definition, which would follow either a food-based or nutrient-based approach. It was clear by the end of the meeting that most attendees were in favor of a combined approach including requirements and limits to both food groups and nutrients.
